VB Social Media Banking News via Twitter #8 – 25-May-09

Please find below my daily top 10 tweets on social media in banking and financial services from the people I am following on Twitter.

I invite you to check the other tweets which didn’t make my post today. I flagged them as favorites on @Visible_Banking.

jowyang @hrblock is a good example of a corporation using Twitter well. Helpful, responsive, and provides support

@HRBlock is the 5th most followed financial institution in my Visible Banking Twitter Watch with 2,871 followers, 2,662 web friends and 1,176 updates.

jowyang The tag for the conference is #tc140. My opening slide will state that Twitter doesn’t matter.

I wish I could attend Jeremiah‘s presentation. Anyone intersted to co-organize the first major twitter conference in London? Contact me.
mashable Is Social Media Making Corporate Websites Irrelevant? –

Make sure to keep your own website, but in social media don’t reinvent the wheel! First, consider tapping an existing trusted community like facebook to reach a critical mass of users in no time.
This is a good article on Vitamin Water. If like me you love watching the NBA, you will have fun watching this video!
individuum The @individuum Academy of Dreams finalists have been announced – one of the four will receive a $25k sponsorship

Like the people we are trying to find and uncover through the Academy of Dreams sponsorship, we are truly ‘grassroots’. individuum does everything possible in-house and chooses to keep things simple and lo-fi. This allows us to live and breathe our brand and spend our $$$ on more important things… like the Academy of Dreams.

Just two to three years ago, Individuum couldn’t even have dreamed about successfully launching their refreshing ‘Academy of Dreams’ at virtually no costs. This is another example of the potential offered by social media and the power of word of mouth and customer advocacy. I invite you to watch their videos on YouTube and Vimeo, and check their blog.
bankingreview Comm Bank is using Twitter & Facebook to encourage participation in its #YMoneyMatters forum for Gen Y

I flagged those initiatives in my social media directory a few days ago. If you have the opportunity, make sure to attend their interactive forum on Personal Financial Management which takes place on May 27th at ”the Mint’ in Sidney… but you won’t find the location at! 🙂
You can submit your questions now on twitter using #YMoneyMatters.
loic Twitter and Facebook are the revenge of the non bloggers. They can be as influential or more than bloggers without even knowing what a blog is

In the last 5 years people’s reach increased dramatically thanks to blogging. It is almost unbelievable but Twitter made it even easier to express yourself. Now anybody can really make a difference and force virtually any company to change its strategy.
polnavarro Totally agree with @martinvars “The Next Web is the Visual Web” (we are already working on this internally)

Banco Sabadell has already started to experiment and assess the full potential of the Visual Web. Have you already started?
CUTweetTrack CUs launching sites in support of other programs @GECUSvngsChllng @iDudeLuvsRic @EarnorBurn @uturnchallenge and @BuckTheNorm – Gen Y & Debt

Another good tweet from Roger. I added those 5 initiatives to my Visible Banking Twitter Watch.
But as far as I am concerned I believe banks should focus their attention on one main twitter account. By experience, it is challenging enough to find the internal resources to spend time to send updates and reach a critical mass of followers. Less is more, stay focused!
rbcinnovator 10 workplace skills of the future. All sound like innovation skills to me, we use them all the time

It is all about innovation now, right?
UBank Hundreds of UBank USBs sent out today, we’re sending most out this week. They take a few days to arrive in the post. Keep the pics coming.

I can’t wait to receive my USB key. It is such a cool u-shape! UBank’s initiative has proved very successful: their twitter account now counts over 1,450 followers an made the top 10 of my Twitter Watch. Congrats to Gerd, Monty and his Team!
