Banking 2.0 – FinovateStartup: Focus on Cake Financial

I covered the first Finovate event organized by Jim Bruene back in October 2007 (in New York City). The event was such a success (it sold out in only 6 weeks) that Jim decided to organize two more Finovate events in 2008: FinovateStartup & Finovate 08.

I was delighted when Jim invited me to be the official live blogger on NetBanker at FinovateStartup in San Francisco.  Before the event, I plan to blog about most of the 40 startups which will demo their products. My goal is to give you a brief overview of those innovative startups.

Cake Financial, an innovative social-investing service

CakefinancialI am connected to Steve Carpenter, the Founder & CEO of Cake Financial, on Linkedin.
Cake Financial was launched in September 2007.

Cake Financial is a social investment service that lets people safely and securely track all their investment portfolios in one place. The service allows individual investors to track and analyze their historical performance up to ten years. Users can also view the real-time portfolios and performances of their friends, family and top investors all without disclosing any personal financial information.

Since February 2008, Cake Financial let you track your Friends Stock Portfolios on Facebook.

PR & Marketing 2.0
CakefinancialvideothesliceMost online startups have limited marketing dollars. Wesabe is a great example of how to leverage social media to create a positive buzz online (almost) for free. Well done DebbieMarcand Jason!

Cake does well with The Slice, a sharp and energetic video show, and the Cake blog, updated on regular basis.
