American Express Big Break Generates 57,000 Votes – Winners Revealed [FACEBOOK]

Over 57,000 votes were cast in American Express’ Big Break for Small Business and the 5 Big Break winners have been revealed: Casale Jewelers, Hendrick Boards, Dutch Monkey Doughnuts, Dick Pond Athletics and The Produce Box.

The Big Break initiative was spearheaded by American Express OPEN and Facebook for a chance to help five small businesses and their communities.  The five winners will get $25,000 to expand their respective businesses and to attract more customers.

The winners will also get a visit from American Express OPEN and Facebook for a strategy session on how to translate the ideas into action.

The communities of the Big Break winners will likewise be the venue of an event where local businesses will be able to learn from American Express OPEN and Facebook. Also American Express cardholders will get a statement credit that can be used to shop at local businesses.

Small businesses joined the contest up until July 15, 2012. From the business that joined, 10 finalists have been chosen by a panel of expert judges.

The 10 finalists were then given a custom video made by American Express OPEN that will be used during the voting period that lasted from August 20, 2012 to August 31, 2012. Facebook also chipped in $2,500 in ad credits. Lastly, a digital toolkit was also provided for the businesses to engage their respective communities.

From the 10 finalists, five were selected to get a Big Break through a community vote in Facebook.
