Needless to say that most of those tweets show how new to social media those financial services firms were a few years ago.  Since then, they have focused on improving their content strategy, find their tone of voice and drive as much meaningful engagement as possible on twitter…  or have they?  Objectively, most of them still haven’t started to really understand twitter, let alone tap social media insurance in a meaningful way: most lack a brand purpose and spend virtually no budget on data mining their twitter followers to identify the most valuable relationships and build an optimized, highly relevant engagement strategy with those VIPs, customers or influencers.

I would argue that too much budget was spent on paid media and artificially growing their social ‘fan’ bases, not enough on earned media.  You will find it obvious when studying content visibility and content engagement rates on facebook and soon on twitter.

So, what is your favorite first tweet among this selection from some of the most followed insurance twitter accounts globally?  In your opinion, who is ‘the best’ insurance firm on twitter?  I invite you to join the conversation here, on twitter or on google+.

What do you think?
