Is the ZAGGKeys Folio the Best Keyboard for Your iPad Air? [Video Review]

Video Review of ZAGGKeys Folio iPad Air Best Keyboard for iPad Air

ZAGGKeys Folio Review. I’m looking to buy the best keyboard for iPad Air for content creators like myself: B2B, financial services professionals and bloggers.

For those of you who are not familiar with my work on VisibleBanking.com, since early 2007 I’ve been curating and championing social media and digital innovation in the global financial services industry.  You can find on my blog a broad range of content covering topics such as social media, social business and mobile, and formats like blog articles, photos, video comments and video interviews.

In early November 2013, I bought an iPad Air. It proved an excellent purchase: it’s much lighter than before, it’s superbly designed and it’s fast and powerful.  Arguably, it’s currently the ultimate hybrid device for both entertainment and work.

Being both a global social media planner and a practitioner, I’ll let you imagine how much content I have to produce on daily basis.  I need to be able to capture my ideas and articulate my concepts as and when needed throughout the day, from the office or on the road.

In my opinion, the iPad’s on-board virtual keyboard is not fit for heavy typing and content production.  I find it lagging a lot which makes it rather challenging to capture a conversation or cover a live event.

I’ve been reading and watching dozens of online (video) reviews for the last month or so, but I couldn’t find the one which would provide me with all the information required to select the best keyboard for my needs.

So I thought it’d be a great opportunity to test some of the best keyboards for iPad Air to date and share my feedback with you in the form of a social media mash up in the form of a blog post including content like PowerPoint slides, YouTube and Vine videos, and photos.

Those are my very first product reviews, so not only am I feeling very humble and excited at the same time to share my work with you, it would also mean a lot to me to receive your comments and suggestions, and compare our experiences using those devices.

  1. Is the hinge damaging the screen a likely possibility? Your review is very informative, but I don’t think that I’ll get this if it means my iPad will be damaged.

    • Hi Stacey,

Another reviewer expressed his concerned, but I personally haven’t experienced such an issue with my unit.

The ZAGGKeys Folio is an excellent case and as long as you don’t mind the extra weight, you’ll love its backlit keyboard and its multiple viewing angles.

      Please keep me posted.

  2. I bought this for myself as an early Christmas present. It’s working pretty well right now, but I do agree that with the iPad, the pair is heavy.

  3. Thanks for the reply, Christophe. This is good to know. I’ve heard great things about the ZAGGKeys Folio, but was initially apprehensive about buying it due to this issue.

  4. I tried the ZAGGKeys Folio at local gadget shop and I must say I was impressed with the typing aspect of the item. Compared to the Belkin QODE Ultimate Wireless Keyboard and Kensington KeyFolio Pro, I found that the ZAGGKeys Folio typing experience to be outstanding. It was very similar, IMO, to the typing experience I have with my MacBook Air, and the keys have great feedback and snap.

  5. @Pheonix thanks for sharing. And a good Christmas present that is! The ZAGGKeys Folio is my personal favourite: I love the backlit keyboard and the multiple viewing angles via the hinge. Only its weight made me return it. Now, I’m waiting to receive the much more portable and versatile ZAGGKeys Cover of iPad Air. It looks like the perfect balance of innovation and portability, as long as you are happy to sacrifice protection, which is not a problem for me.

  6. @Pearl being a frequent traveller, I can confirm how convenient it is to have a keyboard with backlit keys. And it’s cool to have 7 colours to choose from. You might also want to consider the newly released ZAGGKeys Cover for iPad Air. Keep us posted.

  7. @Stacey my pleasure. I invite you to keep us posted and share your experience with us. Personally, I very much look forward to testing the ZAGGKeys Cover for iPad Air which might just be the perfect keyboard +iPad Air combo on the go, as long as you carry it within something like the highly popular Belkin sleeve for iPad.

  8. @Ryan your typing experience with the ZAGGKeys Folio mirrors mine. I haven’t tested the Kensington KeyFolio Pro just as yet, but it’s even better than the pleasant and very usable Belkin Ultimate Keyboard Case. And as a bonus, you also have the backlit keys…

  9. This is by far te best keyboard I have found for my iPad Air. I think it’s sturdy, practical and very functional. This keyboard is excellent. The case is solid but would be considered heavy by some people. I think it’s perfect. Great review by the way!

  10. This is the best one I’ve found. I bought the Zaggkeys Folio asa gift but liked it so much I decided to keep it for myself. The backlit keys are the best feature for commuting on those late night Amtrak commuters to NYC. It is a tad heavy, but it feels sturdy and think its one of the nicest iPad keyboards around

  11. I saw the ZaggKeys Folio when I was out with a friend who was shopping for a new laptop. As soon as I saw the keyboard, I had my credit card in hand and bought it immediately. I love the backlit screen. It’s sturdy enough for me, and the price seems right for the quality. An awesome product!
