Lloyds Banking Group demonstrates its commitment to create best-of-breed digital products and services by adding a Digital Innovation Culture Manager to its growing innovation team.
In the last couple of years, Lloyds Banking Group has demonstrated its strategic commitment to push the digital transformation envelope in order to become the UK leader in digital banking with a number of key hires, including the talented Claire Calmejane, Head of Digital Centre of Excellence, Innovation, Partnerships (@ccalmeja).
In the last seven days, LBG posted a number of digital innovation job openings on LinkedIn including ‘Innovation Manager – Digital‘, ‘Senior Digital Proposition Manager‘, ‘Head of Special Projects‘, ‘Programme Manager, Digital Centre of Excellence‘ and the brand new ‘Digital Innovation Culture Manager‘ role.

Lloyds Banking Group’s Digital Innovation Culture Manager
Group Digital’s vision is to become a pioneer in digital banking, one recognised as the very best in Europe in the way digital technologies are used to service our customers across channels. We are looking for a ‘change agent’, responsible for instilling an innovation culture within LBG. You will be responsible for facilitating learning, stimulating creativity and nurturing an environment conducive to generating ‘disruptive’ ideas.
The role has a key culture aspect which involves managing events including Digital Espressos, Mash Ups and Hackathons. The role expects creativity to invent new events and ways to widen engagement with digital innovation.
- Designing and facilitating productive group interactions
- Proactive creation of events, facilitation practices and learning within Group Digital and across the bank
- Ability to turn meetings, events, conferences, offsites, trainings into effective collaborative and fun experiences that promote innovation
- Provide constructive challenge to ensure we are delivering the best communications possible around internal innovation
- Responsible for maintaining and delivering communication tools and techniques.
About six months ago, Scottish Widow and Halifax, two brands within the Lloyds Banking Group proudly communicated on not only their investments in digital innovation but also their positive results to date.
UK Banking Industry’s First Chief Digital Officer
I probably don’t have to remind you that LBG also claimed to be the first UK bank to have a Chief Digital Officer in Miguel-Ángel Rodríguez-Sola.
Miguel-Ángel also heads the digital, marketing and customer development group function setup last year.
Last but not least, Miguel-Ángel reports directly to the Group CEO and sits on the Group Executive Committee.
Banking Leaders in Digital Transformation
I would still argue that BBVA has established itself as the biggest champion of digital transformation in the global banking industry: not only did the Spanish bank start to recruit digital leaders from the likes of Google, eBay and PayPal years ago, it’s also one of the most active banks in the FinTech space in terms of both investments (BBVA Open Talent competition) and acquisition (Simple).
Nevertheless, It’s great to see the Lloyds Banking Group putting the right level of investment required to successfully drive the digital transformation in the UK banking industry, plagued with the low level of customer trust, the internal silos and processes, the legacy systems and all the financial regulations.
At the end of last year, I had the pleasure to spend an evening right next to Alessandro Hatami, Digital Payments and Innovation Director, Group Digital at an exclusive dinner organised by SAP. I delivered the keynote speech and I had the honour to share the stage with Ashok Vaswani, CEO, Personal and Corporate Banking at Barclays.
I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Alessandro who shared his vision and convinced me of the LBG focus and dedication to set a new benchmark in digital banking, significantly improve the digital customer experience and create customer value on the back of it.
